Questions?

Do you have other questions related too...

  • How should I care for and nurture my new hair?

Be patient with your new hair style. In most cases, hair returns to its pre-chemotherapy state. In the meantime, keep visiting your hair stylist so that they can continue to restyle your new hair. Show your stylist pictures of yourself before your treatment so that you can both come up with an action plan. Remember – you can continue to wear your wig until you are comfortable with your new hair.

  • How should I look after my hair once it has grown back?

We recommend that, once your hair has grown back and you have finished your treatment, you visit your hairdresser to have regular trims. By trimming off the fragile hair, your hair will strengthen and grow back more quickly. Even if you just book in for a wash and blow-dry, this can make you feel better about yourself and give you a confidence boost. It can be very therapeutic to visit your hairdresser!

  • When is the best time to go back to my original hairdresser if I want to?

Once you feel that you don’t need to wear your wig anymore, you can go back to your usual hair stylist. They will also be able to help maintain your hair as it is grows back.

  • What hair products should I now use?

Use products that are gentle on your scalp, without sulphates or parabans, and that are high in keratin, which is what your natural hair is made of. Avocado oil will smooth and moisturize dry brittle hair and argan oil based products are great for restoring shine, manageability and condition. As your hair gets longer, an intensive treatment mask that you apply to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair will be a perfect weekly treat.

  • Can I use straighteners on my hair?

It is important to look after your hair at this time, and excessive use of hair straighteners is not recommended as they put hair under a lot of stress (and hair that is recovering after chemotherapy will suffer even more).

  • What effect does long term chemotherapy or radiotherapy have on my hair?

The impact on your hair will depend on the length, and type, of treatment you are having. And, because people are different, every patient reacts differently. Not everyone automatically gets hair loss with chemotherapy, so it is impossible to conclusively predict when – and if – your will fall out.

  • Which hair is oil would be the best for my new hair?

There are many hair oils available. It is important to look at the texture of your hair and choose oil that is suitable for your hair type. In our main salon, Christos Hair Design, Newport Pagnell, we have been lucky to receive a preview of the new oil from Wella. Wella SP Luxe Oil contains Keratin, Argan Oil, Almond Oil and Jojoba Oil. These ingredients are absolutely superb for reconstructing your hair, protecting your hair from the elements and repairing any damaged hair. When you have been undergoing medical treatment or taking medication, your hair can become lifeless, frizzy and dull. Hair oil will strengthen and smooth the hair, increase the hair’s elasticity and renew the hair’s cell structure. Wella’s New Luxe Oil contains Keratin, Keratin is a protein that is found naturally within your hair, by using products that contain it you create a protective barrier over the shaft of the hair and this supports the Keratin to penetrate deep into the shaft repairing the hair from the inside out. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any more information.

  • What is a Nio-Scope and can it benefit people suffering from any form of scalp condition or medically induced hair loss?

A Nio-Scope is a digital microscopic hair and scalp scanning device, which Nioxin have developed, to help hair care and scalp specialists determine the correct treatment programs for many different kinds of hair and scalp problems.
